Boeckel was first certified as a firefighter at the age of 16, following a family tradition. He never looked back. He made his way to Telluride in 1992 where he found the Telluride Fire Protection District (TFPD) staffed with hard-working and enthusiastic volunteers grappling with a coverage area that was booming.
